An Idea Born on the Road

There are unexpected moments that become turning points in a life. For Élizabeth, her son Joshua, and me, that moment happened during a simple getaway to Plattsburgh, in the United States.

We were driving along peacefully, enjoying the autumn scenery of a small American town, when suddenly an unusual detail caught my eye: a sandal—alone, abandoned on the side of the road.

“Look!” I blurted out, laughing.

We burst out laughing right away. Élizabeth immediately started asking questions… How could a sandal end up there without its match? Where was the other one? Was it from a distracted child? A hurried traveler? Or an imaginary character who’d set off on an adventure?

When Imagination Takes Over

Very quickly, we started making up stories around that lonely shoe. Joshua, sitting in the back seat, added his own scenarios with all the spontaneity and imagination of a child.

One idea led to another, and between bursts of laughter and overflowing creativity, an idea was born:

What if every lost shoe became the starting point of a story?

That’s how the idea for a series of children’s e-books began to take shape.

The Birth of Joshua's Adventures

From that single abandoned sandal, we imagined a collection of illustrated stories for children aged 3 to 6.

The common thread is simple, yet powerful: a forgotten shoe—and behind it, an extraordinary adventure. Each book is an invitation to wonder, curiosity, and the joy of reading.

The hero came naturally: Joshua, Élizabeth’s son. With his wide-eyed view of the world and his childlike energy, he’s the perfect companion to take young readers along on these modern children’s tales.
